Glendale has this week announced the formation of three new green service companies and the widening of the scope of its activities. For more than 12 years Glendale, a division of Parkwood Holdings plc, has been providing innovative green service solutions to both the public and private sector.
The three new companies are Glendale Green Waste Recycling, Glendale Golf and Glendale Horticulture. They will join Glendale’s existing green companies, Glendale Grounds Management and Glendale Countryside. Together the five companies are aiming to achieve sales of more than £40 million within the next five years.
Glendale’s green service provision to the private sector has been strengthened by the creation of Glendale Golf and Glendale Horticulture which will draw on the company’s existing specialist expertise and innovation to provide economically viable, green solutions to a wider audience.
Glendale Golf has been established to provide a complete management and maintenance service to municipal and proprietary owned golf courses.
The new company, based at offices in Hartlebury, Worcestershire, will provide investment, innovation, specialist skills and resources to maximise revenue from golf courses.
As well as course maintenance, Glendale Golf will also manage catering and retail facilities and adopt fresh strategies to attract new players and members. It will also explore ideas to use course facilities for social and business functions such as weddings and conferences.
Neil Simpson, director of Glendale Golf, said, “Glendale Golf has been established to relieve the pressure from local authorities and proprietors of managing their golf course facilities.
“Our service will address all issues facing golf clubs, from recruiting staff to developing marketing campaigns, providing investment and making continuous improvements.
“Glendale’s innovative commercial and management approach combined with our existing technical expertise will increase golf club revenues and ultimately benefit the local community.”
Tony Hewitt, managing director of Glendale who leads the five companies, said they expected their ‘green business’ to become the largest of its kind in the UK, employing more than 2,000 specialist skilled members of staff. “The formation of the new companies sees the expansion and diversification of Glendale’s offer – complete green management solutions from one source,” he said.
“The public sector market is constantly changing and Best Value has resulted in a welcome shift in emphasis away from service provision based on cost alone, to one of quality and added value. By working in partnership with local authorities, we aim to deliver added environmental, financial and social value to the public.”
The launch of Glendale’s new companies sees the realisation of the business vision of a senior management team led by Tony Hewitt, who is also executive chairman of Parkwood Holdings plc, Glendale’s parent company
Mr Hewitt founded the company in 1988 and has seen the company grow from a £14m turnover in 1995 to £26m in 2001. He is confident that Glendale’s green business will achieve sales of more than £40 million within the next five years and become the largest business of its kind.
“Glendale has been both pro-active and responsive to a changing marketplace but its proposition is clear – each of the five “green companies” offer a powerful combination of commercial and management expertise in addition to specialist knowledge.
“The benefits to both public and private sector customers are compelling,” he concluded.
