Golf Datatech’s monthly report of golf rounds played in the United States shows rounds played were down 0.2% in June versus June 2001 and down 2.3% for the year-to-date versus the same period last year.

The largest gain in June came in the West South Central region, 4.7%, followed by the Middle Atlantic (2.9%), Pacific (2.0%) and South Atlantic (1.8%). Among key states, Texas showed the greatest increase, 6.3%, while California and Florida registered declines of 0.3% and 1.3% respectively.

Among regions showing declines in June, the West North Central slipped the most, 8.0%. New England showed a 5.6% decrease, and the Mountain states slipped 3.5%.

Year-to-date, only four regions are ahead of 2001 after six months: Middle Atlantic (2.4%), South Atlantic (1.0%), Pacific (0.5%) and West South Central (0.2%). The greatest YTD decline is in the East North Central (-10.5%).
