The ends is now in sight for the staff at Le Golf National and the construction teams who began the Ryder Cup build over two months ago, writes Ross Biddiscombe. The whole course is now starting to look like a Ryder Cup venue and the build is still on time.
With all the major structures complete, it is the dressing of the venue that has taken over as the main priority, from the flags and banners that greet the fans on entry to the interiors of the merchandise tents, hospitality suites and tented village stands.
One of the standout banners provides a French touch for the fans: it shouts out the words ‘Allez allez allez’ which could rival the traditional European fan chant of ‘Olé olé olé olé’.
There will be final safety checks to complete on the largest temporary buildings before they are signed off and ready to be filled with all the necessary materials. These include the sky boxes on top of the largest grandstand in Ryder Cup history which stands some 23.5 metres high above the first tee and practice areas.
Construction of the giant TV screens all around the course has been one of the main projects in the last week.
But the main focus in the last few days has been the massive opening ceremony stage area where the teams and officials will be introduced at 5pm on the day before the match gets underway. This will also be the venue where French singing superstar Jain will play in a free 90-minute concert along with the hit British rock band The Kaiser Chiefs on the same day.
Other timetable details have also been released including news of the first of the week’s press conferences by the captains Jim Furyk and Thomas Bjorn which will take place on the afternoon of the Monday of match week .
