International property consultants, Strutt & Parker, have been instructed by Worthing Borough Council to sell Hill Barn, an historic 18-hole pay and play golf course to the north of the town, and Brooklands, a par 3 course on the seafront.

Hill Barn Golf Course, which is in a prime location on the northern boundary of Worthing town, ½ mile from the A27, was established in 1935 and designed by the internationally renowned golf architect F E Hawtree. Spaciously laid out in 62 hectares (153 acres) of attractive downland, the course measures 6,229 yards, par 70 and has some magnificent views over the south coast.

The subsoil is chalk and flint, which is free draining and the course very rarely closes. There is an attractive clubhouse and 2 flint barns. There are opportunities for redevelopment.

Brooklands Par 3 Course is located on Worthing seafront and was designed by the former Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas. The course is built to USGA specifications and set in attractive landscape totalling approximately 8.1 Ha (20 acres). There is also a 9-hole pitch and putt course, an 18-hole putting green and a small clubhouse.

The golf courses are both freehold and available together or as two separate lots at £2 million and £350,000. The Borough Council intends to use the sale proceeds to finance a non-golf leisure project in the town.
