Tonight: Another Attack on Golf’s Image

September 30th, 2015

On BBC4 at 9.00 p.m. this evening viewers in the UK can watch the new anti-golf film by Anthony (You’ve been Trumped) Baxter. Radio Times pitches: ‘For Mark Twain, golf was a good walk ruined. For many, golf is ruinous to nature. …. Anthony Baxter looks at a campaign to stop a resort in Dubrovnik. ….Environmental destruction is par for the course: according to the UN, water irrigating golf courses could meet the needs of 80% of the world’s population.’

Focussing on a small number of recent golf development projects, this film seeks to draw some conclusions about the sport as a whole. Of course, at a time when so much effort is going into growing the game, it certainly doesn’t do the image of golf any good.

Is it unfair? Why not take a look at tonight’s broadcast and form your own view.

As far as we are concerned, in the future we’ll continue to place a strong focus on credible sustainability solutions, such as those developed by the Golf Environment Organization, and present what independent analysts will regard as a ‘balanced view’.
