The Word on The Strip

March 2nd, 2012

This week GBN.com has been attending all five days of The Golf Industry Show in Las Vegas. Throughout the week the need to grow the game has been emphasised both in the educational programme and on the floor of the trade show. There are, in fact, so many new initiatives that it is impossible to list them all here but, as an indicator of their ambition, the objective of Golf 2.0 – the programme recently launched by The PGA of America – is to grow the number of American golfers from an estimated 26 million in 2010 to 40 million by the year 2020,

In and around the Las Vegas Convention Centre, just off the famous ‘Strip’, there is a real buzz of excitement about the programmes that will make this happen. From the ASGCA talk of creating ‘Bunny Slopes’ for beginners to innovative schools programmes like SNAG (Starting New at Golf); Birdie Ball; and Hook A Kid on Golf all joining with the well-established First Tee programme to draw in the crowds.

There is a real sense of purpose and all sectors of the golf industry have united in these efforts to drive the future growth of the game. I’m going to bet that they succeed.
