Open Golf TV: it could have been worse

February 3rd, 2015

The new arrangements for broadcasting The Open Championship from 2017 were announced just over an hour ago. Details of the agreement are set out below and require careful study but, with the BBC showing two-hour daily highlights in prime-time and both the BBC and Sky committed to supporting The R&A’s efforts to promote participation in the sport through their Get Inspired and Sky Academy initiatives, the news could have been much worse.

Furthermore The R&A has announced that it will undertake a comprehensive strategic review on the subject of golf participation in the UK and Ireland and will ensure that golf feels the full benefit of the enhanced resources available. This work needs to begin at once.
