It was great to have so many players in contention for being Masters Champion 2018 – an exciting event right to the end.
For those of us who occasionally bang on about the health benefits of golf, however, another highlight of the week was having 68-year-old Tom Watson become the oldest winner in the history of the Par 3 contest on the eve of the Masters.
Having birdied six of the first eight holes, he holed a difficult putt for par at the last to beat 27-year-old Tommy Fleetwood and 26-year-old Thomas Pieters by one shot.
In fact, the combined score of Watson, who was playing with 82-year-old Gary Player and 78-year-old Jack Nicklaus, was 12 under par! Very encouraging news for all golfers of a certain age.
