The European Institute of Golf Course Architects 2013 Conference has been taking place in Malmö, Sweden this week, the first time that EIGCA has met in Scandinavia.
In the days leading up to the main event the Architects have been holding workshops for their education programme but, in an overall golf business contex, nothing is as significant as EIGCA’s new environmental sustainability programme, ‘Raising the Standard of Sustainable Golf Course Design’ – about which I shall be reporting in more detail next week.
Malmö is an ideal choice for the venue. Since the opening of the Øresund Bridge in July 2000 linking Denmark and Sweden, Malmö has undergone a period of regeneration and is now one of the most popular event venues in Sweden, Indeed it shortly plays host to the Eurovision Song Contest – hence this week’s hard-working headline!
