Cycling the New Golf?

May 20th, 2014

The news that UK retailer Direct Golf is diversifying into selling bikes seems to confirm what some have been saying for a year or two now: “Cycling is The New Golf.”

CNN Money reports that across America, entrepreneurs and seasoned executives are sidelining golf as their networking activity of choice and taking up cycling instead.

“Unlike golf, cycling is also a great equalizer,” said Andy Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists. “You’re the same as the person riding next to you. So it makes people more approachable. It’s a better way to stay in shape. It’s also less time consuming and relatively less expensive.”

Both sports need expensive gear and colourful clothes but, dear reader, I hereby make this solemn pledge, “You will never, ever see me wearing Lycra.”

For those of you who know me, I hope that thought is not too disturbing – enjoy the read.
