A decision they might come to regret

April 22nd, 2016

Louis Oosthuizen, Vijay Singh and Adam Scott have all declared themselves unavailable for the Olympics and this morning we publish the response from Peter Dawson of the IGF.

There has been much discussion about how an Olympic golf gold medal cannot compare with a Major Championship title. But what I think Louis, Vijay and Adam will come to regret is that they have turned down the opportunity to join the Olympic family.

They will not rub shoulders with Champion athletes in different sports, march in an Opening or Closing Ceremony, hear their national anthem and see their flag raised to mark their achievement, experience the camaraderie of the Olympic village – a far cry from the luxury private villas and 5 star hotel accommodation that they are used to. There’s nothing on any Tour to match this. It’s a money-can’t buy experience.

That’s the point.
