While some golf courses are preparing for their annual Winter shut-down, others remain open all-year round albeit with a considerable reduction in the number of rounds played. At St Andrews, for example, the last tee time in November is 11.40 am while in June players can start as late as 5.50 pm and still complete a full round.
As we report in GBN.com this week, The Belfry has come up with a novel way of managing Winter Golf.
Their ‘shotgun start’ idea has everyone teeing off at 10.30 am. This means more time to prepare the course, no bitterly cold early teetimes, the guarantee of a full round during daylight, more players on the course and, just as importantly, in the bars and restaurants. Heaven knows, the golf business needs the money!
