The Open Championship brings many tens of millions of pounds to the host area. Last year’s Open is said to have delivered a combined £100 million benefit to Scotland.
But the success of The Open relies largely upon the superb efforts of literally hundreds of people who put in hours of unpaid effort as officials, marshals, scorers, bunker rakers, litter-packers etc. We hope that they all get a lot of fun and pleasure from doing so.
Next weekend we’ll be cheering on our favourite players so, this week, let’s remember the volunteers who make it all possible.
