Wilson Staff Model becomes official ball of the Tartan Pro Tour

Scotland’s Tartan Pro Tour – the development tour for aspiring men and women golf professionals – has selected the new Wilson Staff Model golf ball as its ‘Official Ball’ for the forthcoming 2021 season.

The four-piece urethane ball, which was launched earlier this year, will also be played on the Senior Tours across Europe and the USA by former Open Champion Paul Lawrie.

As part of the sponsorship package, Wilson will also offer a ball contract to young players who commit to playing in five or more Tartan Tour events during the year, with a win bonus payment to those signed up to use the ball.

“We’re delighted to be involved with the Tartan Pro Tour and support up and coming golfers using the new Staff Model ball with an added cash incentive should they go on to win,” said Global Commercial Director, Doug Wright. “Being a Tour based in Scotland – the spiritual home of the game and the UK base for Wilson for many years – the Tartan Pro Tour provides an exceptional opportunity for players to learn and progress and I’m looking forward to seeing results as our new ball is put into play.”

The announcement comes following the Tour releasing its full 2021 schedule, which comprises a dozen two-day events, starting at Montrose Links on April 15-16 and culminating with the Tour Championship at Carnoustie Links on October 18-19. The Paul Lawrie Matchplay will also run throughout the season.

Lawrie, the last Scotsman to win The Open Championship, founded the Tartan Pro Tour and wants to use his stature in the game to help produce the next generation of talent.

“Our objective is to provide a stepping-stone for aspiring tournament professionals to reach the highest levels of competition,” said Lawrie. “We want them to play on the best courses against the best field possible, with cash incentives and other bonuses up for grabs.

“I can’t thank Wilson enough for supporting the tour and the next generation of golfing talent. I have a long association and very happy memories with the brand that I still use today and I look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come,” he added.

Lawrie, who famously won the 1999 Open title at Carnoustie, made the switch to the Wilson Staff Model ball following months of extensive testing and having a helping hand in its development alongside engineers at the brand’s Innovation Centre in Chicago.
