Saunton Golf Club will be the spectacular setting for the 2016 PGA Play-Offs which will see the UK’s leading PGA pros battle it out for PGA Cup places and Tour starts.

The famed Devon club boasts two of the finest links courses with the 72-hole event being staged on the East Course from October 24-27.

Saunton has a rich history of hosting championship golf including the PGA Club Professional Championship in 2002 while Sergio Garcia won the British Boys Championship in 1997.

PGA chief executive Sandy Jones said: “Saunton is a truly great links boasting two championship quality courses and the East Course in particular will be a fantastic test to determine the No.1 player for the year.

“We would like to thank the club, head professional Albert MacKenzie and its members, for hosting the PGA Play-Offs and we look forward to an exciting conclusion to the season in Devon.”

The PGA Play-Offs marks the climax of the PGA schedule with a 24 strong field competing for 10 spots in the BMW PGA Championship plus the leading finishers earn a number of European and Challenge Tour starts.

An added incentive this year is the top three finishers will also secure automatic qualification to the 2017 Great Britain & Ireland PGA Cup team who will be defending the Llandudno Trophy against America next year.

Host pro MacKenzie has strong ties to the PGA Cup having been a vice captain to Jon Bevan in the 2015 team which memorably became the first to win on US soil at CordeValle in California.

MacKenzie added: “Having been involved in the PGA Cup last time round, we are absolutely thrilled to host the PGA Play-Offs and thanks to our general manager Russell Mayne for creating room to stage them.

“The golf course is very befitting of the Play-Offs and the top three players who prevail over 72 holes at Saunton will be worthy of their PGA Cup place. The East course will provide all of the necessary challenges to ensure that the players selected for the PGA Cup matches in 2017 will be the perfect foundation upon which to build the team of ten.

“We are extremely proud of our courses, and it is always a privilege for Saunton to host an event of such significance.”

The Play-Offs field comprises the top three from each of the seven regional order of merits plus the winner and runner up from the Titleist & FootJoy PGA Professional Championship and the Galvin Green PGA Assistants’ Champion.
