The QHotels Collection is preparing its Northumberland golf venue for another major event, as The PGA Professional Championship heads to Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort (pictured)

Seen as the Association’s premier event, and first hosted in 1973, the 144 players who will visit on 14-17 June for the 2022 Championship, will be fighting it out for a total prize fund in excess of £80,000 and the chance to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the PGA Cup, a Ryder Cup-style event for club professionals in September.

Access to the PGA Professional Championship will be won via performance in eight qualifying competitions that take place between April and May, the events separated into regions of competition across the UK and Ireland.

Those that are successful will get the chance to experience Slaley Hall’s incredible championship Hunting Course, which stretches over 7,000 yards, and possesses lush sweeping fairways, streams, lakes, towering trees, and banks of rhododendrons for a truly unique, if challenging, player experience.

Chris Joyce, Interim Head of Tournaments at The PGA, said: “The PGA is delighted to be taking its flagship tournament to Slaley Hall in June for the 49th staging of the PGA Professional Championship.

“Slaley Hall’s championship Hunting Course is one of the most testing courses in Great Britain and will provide a stern challenge for the 144-strong field to relish.

“This year’s tournament carries even more significance, with six places up for grabs for the Great Britain & Ireland PGA Cup team to face America at Foxhills Club & Resort in September.

“With the support of the team at Slaley Hall, we can look forward to another successful staging of this event.”

Keith Pickard

Often dubbed ‘The Augusta of the North’, Slaley Hall has played host to no fewer than 18 European Tour and European Senior Tour events and will provide a stern test for those that have successfully qualified for the 2022 PGA Professional Championship.

Keith Pickard, The QHotels Collection’s golf, leisure, and spa director, said: “We are very excited to be once again hosting a PGA event at Slaley Hall, especially given the success of the EuroPro Tour Championship last year. We believe it is the perfect course to host such an important, flagship event.

“The PGA Professional Championship is one of the most prestigious golf events in the UK, and we look forward to seeing what the field of players make of the Hunting Course.”
