Top-class tournament golf is poised to make a welcome return to the North East of England next month as Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort plays host to the International Series England, an all-new $2 million Asian Tour event, from June 2-5.

Organisers are giving an ‘open invitation’ to the tournament with free attendance to the four-day tournament, with registration open from today [Friday, May 6].

As the first-ever Asian Tour-sanctioned event outside of Asia, International Series England will welcome a quality international field comprising of stars of the Asian Tour, champions of tomorrow and leading amateurs to compete for a prize fund of $2 million.

Competitors will also have the opportunity to qualify for a place in the field for following week’s LIV Golf Invitational at Centurion Club in Hertfordshire, where a prize fund of $25m is up for grabs, the largest sum ever offered for a professional golf tournament.

Cho Minn Thant, commissioner and CEO of the Asian Tour, said: “This is the Asian Tour’s first visit to the UK, and we are looking forward to experiencing the north-east’s famous hospitality. Together with the Tour’s contingent of international players, the tournament will also feature a group of local hopefuls looking to breakthrough and vying for a share of the $2m prize purse as well as berths in the highly lucrative LIV Golf Invitational London the following week.

“North-east sports fans are widely known for their passion and support for sport, and we would like to invite all sports fans, golfers and families to come and catch some world-class golfing action and enjoy a stunning venue at the perfect time of year.”

He added: “There is real momentum and growth behind the Asian Tour and, thanks to the International Series, we are creating new opportunities for our players and unlocking potential wherever we play around the world. Much has been achieved already this season, but there is even more to be optimistic about when looking ahead to the future. In many ways we can draw parallels to the recent developments in the region where new investment has reinvigorated the football scene. I’m sure we’ll be made to feel very at home.”

International Series England is one of 10 top-tier events announced by LIV Golf investments and the Asian Tour which make up the all-new International Series as part of an unprecedented $300 million investment in the game. Scheduled to take place across Asia, Middle East and Europe every year for the next decade, each event is designed to grow the game of golf worldwide and offer new pathways for emerging talent from all over the world to progress their careers.

Richard Moore, group chief executive for The QHotels Collection, which owns Slaley Hall, said:
“Preparations are well underway and Slaley Hall is ready to open its doors and warmly welcome not only the exceptionally talented golfers of the Asian Tour but the entire golfing community of the north-east and beyond.

“Over many years we’ve proudly gained the reputation of being a world-class venue for international tournaments. And now we are honoured to write an exciting new chapter in our distinguished history as the first host of the International Series England and the debut of the Asian Tour in the UK.”
