Seniors & celebrities raise thousands for junior golf

12.10am 25th October 2001 - Sponsorship & Events

An impressive field took part in the 2001 Golf Foundation Pro-Am at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club on 15th October to help raise funds for junior golf development. The event, supported by the European Tour, included leading professionals from the European Tour and European Seniors Tour as well as the former President of the Golf Foundation, Bernard Gallacher, Sir Steve Redgrave and Gary Lineker.

Gallacher, with leading amateur Rebecca Hudson, competed alongside James Cundy and Natalie Hayward; the recent winners of the Golf Foundation Weetabix Age Group Championships. They had the honour of playing in Bernard’s team as part of their prize for winning the prestigious championships.

This 16th annual pro-am enabled the Golf Foundation, a registered charity, to raise funds to expand its work developing junior golfers throughout the British Isles. The money raised will support the national network of Starter Centres as well as the hugely successful Tri Golf scheme.

“The £21,000 that we’ve raised at the pro-am will be vital in continuing the excellent progress that the Golf Foundation has made this year with Tri Golf. We cannot thank our supporters enough for their continued support,” said Mike Round, Executive Director of the Golf Foundation.
