The Ladies European Tour (LET) Rookies have responded positively to the challenge issued to them at the Rookie Orientation days held in Spain in January earlier this year. The challenge was to complete The R&A Rules Academy Exam, Level 1, which is an online test that aims to improve the knowledge of the rules amongst golfers of every level. It also promotes an understanding of etiquette and highlights the most commonly occurring rules situations. It features videos, images and diagrams and includes revision questions after each section.

The R&A helped the LET to compile a special leader board which was topped by Rosie Davies, England, who scored 100% in the shortest time. She was followed by Aditi Ashok, India, and Emilie Piquot, France.

All three players received ic!berlin sunglasses for their efforts and Rosie Davies was also presented with a traditional Scottish quaich from David Bird, member of the R&A Rules Panel (above). Rosie was thrilled with her first place and said: “Wow, my first tour win! She went on to say: Joking aside, I learned a lot and paid attention to the information which will help me as I start my professional career.”

Mike Round, LET Director of Development and Membership said: “We think it is really important that players have a good understanding of the rules, particularly at the professional level where penalty shots could be very costly. Also, not only will a sound knowledge of golf rules help to avoid unnecessary penalty shots but will also have a positive impact on the pace of play which is important as our members are role models for the sport.”

David Rickman, Executive Director, Rules and Equipment Standards for the R&A said: “The aim of the Rules Academy is to ensure golfers understand the etiquette of the game and that they are prepared for many different rules situations which they may face on the golf course.  We are delighted that the LET shares our belief in the importance of etiquette and the rules of golf by continuing to endorse the Rules Academy in this way. Congratulations not just to Rosie Davies for doing so well in the exam, but to all the Rookies. I have no doubt that the knowledge gained will be beneficial to them over the course of their golfing careers.”
