Entries are being snapped up for this year’s only European RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship (WLDC), which will be held at PGA Catalunya Resort near Barcelona on 8 September 2012.
To date, participants from Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK have registered to take part in what has been dubbed by organisers as ‘the most spectacular golf power show in the world’.
Miguel Girbes, Golf Director at PGA Catalunya Resort, commented: “We are looking forward to welcoming players from many different countries on 8 September for Europe’s only RE/MAX WLDC event, when we will be expecting some great action at every stage of the tournament.
“The event has been well-received and places are already being booked up by eager golfers wanting to take on the game’s longest hitters, including current world number 15 and RE/MAX WLDC European rookie of the year 2011, Gerard Pera, who has helped to bring the event to Spain’s No.1 golf course.”
He added: “To avoid disappointment, I would advise competitors to book their places soon to guarantee their spot in what we are anticipating to be a true nail-biting showdown between the biggest hitters in Europe.”

Preparations are now in full-swing at the two-time Spanish Open venue where competitors will battle for a place in the RE/MAX WLDC finals in Las Vegas later this year, where the prize fund is a cool $500,000.
The RE/MAX WLDC-PGA Catalunya Resort event will be split into four categories – professional, amateur male, amateur female, and seniors – where each contestant will hit six drives per entry within a 54 m x 400 m field, with their longest shot determining whether they proceed to the knock-out rounds and the day’s final.
Cash prizes for the four first placed pro players will be: €3000 for the winner and a place in the Las Vegas final, €2000 for second place, €1500 for third and €500 for fourth place. Winners of the amateur and senior categories will receive prizes from leading golf brands.
The RE/MAX WLDC-PGA Catalunya Resort will be staged in association with: Air Europa, Coca Cola, Confortel Hoteles, Callaway, Caves Mestres, Ràdio Flaixbac, Vichy Catalan, Munich, Mundo Deportivo, RCD Espanyol and Green Square.
