Two of Britain’s most acclaimed golfers will be in action at the 2019 Farmfoods European Senior Masters this October.

1991 Masters champion Ian Woosnam OBE and 1999 Open winner Paul Lawrie OBE will both be heading to the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club for the Staysure Tour event between 3–6 October.

The Warwickshire based championship will return for a third year with Ian and Paul joined out on the course by a variety of Ryder Cup and European Tour winners including event host Peter Baker and last year’s champion Santiago Luna.

Between them Ian and Paul have a combined 37 wins on the European Tour, but both are best known for their exploits in Major events.

For Ian this came in 1991 when he was victorious in the Masters at Augusta. As well as this he captained Europe to Ryder Cup success in 2006 and has been inducted in the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Paul was the winner of one of the most dramatic Open Championships of all time when he reigned victorious in 1999. After Jean van de Velde faltered on the final hole, Paul capitalised winning the play-off to clinch the win. This win made history as he came back from the largest third-round deficit of all time to win a Major after being 10 shots behind at the start of his round.

Leading brand agency Champions (UK) plc is returning as the event organiser and their Director of Sport Tim Munton discussed the pair’s confirmed involvement. “Ian and Paul are two of the biggest names in golf and to have them on board with the Farmfoods European Senior Masters gives the championship a major boost,” he said.

“In recent years they have both been part of some of the sport’s most memorable moments and they will certainly add to the calibre of the field. We can’t wait to see them in action.”

Speaking about his participation Ian said: “Since joining the Staysure Tour in 2017 this event has been one of the Tour’s standout events and is always a highlight for players. Much of this is down to the fact that it takes place on one of the region’s most stunning and challenging golf courses. I’m looking forward to returning this year and hopefully putting on a good performance.”

Paul said; “Having recently won my first Staysure Tour event I’d love to follow-up on that with another strong performance at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters. The Forest of Arden is the perfect venue for such an even with a tricky back nine that I’m sure will throw up plenty of drama during the championship.”

There is a first prize of €50,000 on offer to the winner of this year’s event with competition sure to be fierce in what has become one of the Staysure Tour’s standout tournaments.
