The Faldo Series has announced details for two new tournaments this season that will bring Nick Faldo’s golf development programme to both Russia and South America.
With the Faldo Series already an established entity in the UK and Asia, Nick Faldo has been endeavouring to extend the unique opportunities that the Series has to offer by creating a greater number of tournaments outside of those regions.
Over the past few seasons, the Faldo Series has made headway into Europe with National Championships in Iceland, Ireland, and Turkey, all of which already form part of this season’s calendar.
The new Faldo Series Russia championship will complete the season’s Continental European schedule, bringing the total number of non-British tournaments in that region to four; whilst the inaugural Faldo Series South America championship, being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and featuring players from ten countries throughout the continent, will represent the Faldo Series’ first foray into the Americas.
The winners of each separate event will have the opportunity to meet and draw inspiration from Nick Faldo at the 2008 Faldo Series Grand Final later this year.
Nick Faldo commented, “These new tournaments in Brazil and Russia are really exciting opportunities for us and I’m delighted that young golfers in these two regions will have the chance to benefit from the unique opportunities that the Faldo Series has to offer.
“We intend to bring top-level competition to both regions, along with golf-specific seminars for the players and grass-roots activities for children and young people, some of whom may never have even picked up a golf club.
“Our aim is to reach as broad a range of young golfers as we possibly can and, by bringing our already successful formula of activities to countries that are not necessarily considered to be traditional golfing nations, we will hopefully be able to make a real impact in each of these new regions.”
