European Solheim Cup to wear Abacus clothing

12.27pm 15th January 2019 - Sponsorship & Events

Swedish sportswear brand Abacus is to reprise its role as official apparel supplier to the European Solheim Cup team for this year’s renewal at Gleneagles in Scotland.

Catriona Matthew, Europe’s captain and longstanding abacus ambassador, said: “I love to wear Abacus clothing because it’s so comfortable, but also technical, so it’s ideal for wearing in all conditions. As the captain for next year’s Solheim Cup in Scotland, I can trust that the high-performance garments will let the team move unrestricted and make any rain, wind and other conditions insignificant, so that we can all focus on our golf in the most intense situations.”

Sven-Olof Karlsson, CEO and founder of Abacus Sportswear, said: “It’s important to us to show a real contribution to the performance of the European Solheim Cup team, and that our apparel exceeds the players’ expectations in terms of function, design and quality. We know from our previous positive Solheim Cup experiences that functional comfort is critical.  This is why we concentrate on the details, to ensure that the players can play their best in all weather conditions.”

Chris Mattsson, head of design at Abacus, added: “As we have done this prestigious project five times before, we know it will be an exciting and challenging task as each event differs, both depending on the captain, who works closely with our design team, as well as the geographical conditions. So far, we will not do any style reveals, but of course, while designing for the Scottish climate we need to be prepared for both temperature changes, wind and certainly some rain. And while designing for Europe, we will definitely stand our ground!”
