ProQuip, Preferred Supplier to The 2012 European Ryder Cup Team, has made the finishing touches to more than 400 rain suits, waterproof tops and trousers destined for Captain José María Olazábal’s players, support team and officials.
The team kit, which also includes a specially designed jacket for the players’ wives and partners, is now winging its way to Medinah Country Club, Chicago, Illinois, ready for the arrival of Team Europe and the start of the biennial match, 28–30 September 2012.
To kit out the 12 players in Olazábal’s team, plus caddies, ProQuip has supplied 90 pairs of waterproof trousers, 60 full-zip jackets and 60 half-zip playing tops.
While the suit design remains a closely guarded secret, ProQuip can reveal the slim-fit garments feature an exclusively developed, highly technical, lightweight fabric that is super-quiet and supremely soft, enabling the players to perform their best in all weathers.
But it isn’t just the players that will be looking good in their weatherwear. Players’ wives and partners will all receive a specially designed jacket in striking Team Europe colours, so they can follow the action out on the course while keeping dry and comfortable.
Olazábal and his four vice-captains also receive rain suits, as well as backroom staff, the six boys and six girls that make up the Junior European Ryder Cup Team, plus board members and Official Partners of Ryder Cup Europe.
Russell Brooks, ProQuip General Manager, said: “There’s a substantial amount of work that goes into supplying weatherwear to Team Europe, but with more than 25 years’ experience supplying Ryder Cup Teams, we are more than up to the challenge.
“The players have to be prepared for every eventuality with the weather, as we saw at Celtic Manor Resort in 2010, which is why we personally tailor each rain suit for the team and use the best performing technical fabrics to keep them dry and comfortable in wind and rain.”
A limited number of replica team suits are available from the Official Ryder Cup online store for fans to emulate their favourite Team Europe players.
Golfers are also able to wear their own version of the European Ryder Cup weatherwear following the launch of ProQuip’s new Trophy Suit, featuring the same high-performance fabric worn by Team Europe.
