Boost for WPGA

Sports Marketing Surveys the leading independent sports research agency has signed a three year agreement to sponsor the WPGA one day series bringing a major boost to women’s professional golf in the UK.

The series features seven events of which the first five will offer two leading qualifying spots for the £400,000 WPGA Championship of Europe at Royal Porthcawl from 26 – 29 July.

With over 15 years of experience in the golf industry, Sports Marketing Surveys runs a comprehensive golf research programme which covers all aspects of the golf market at consumer, trade and professional levels.

Commenting, Maureen Roberts, Secretary of the WPGA said: “We are delighted that Sports Marketing Surveys is supporting the one day series as it provides valuable tournament playing opportunities for women club professionals as well as those up and coming women professionals.”

Stephen Proctor from Sports Marketing Surveys said: “As the industry leader in golf research we interview over 11,500 golfers a year and hundreds of club professionals, gathering information and opinions on trends in golf equipment sales. In view of the increasing number of women professionals at clubs, their participation is a vital part of our research programme. We are therefore very pleased to be able to return their support by sponsoring the WPGA series of one day events.”

The series starts and finishes in Lancashire commencing on 23 April with the first 18 hole event at St Annes Old Links, concluding on 20 August at Ormskirk. Other tournaments are being staged at The Kendleshire, East Sussex National, Longcliffe and Forest Pines.
