The Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship (OWKG) enjoyed yet another stellar week of competitive junior golf, entertaining 94 young golfers from 11 different countries, competing over 18 categories. The stars of tomorrow descended on two of Oceânico Golf’s finest championship golf courses, designed by Ryder Cup legends, Sir Nick Faldo and Christy O’Connor Jnr.

Juniors between ten and seventeen years of age competed over 18 holes on each of the three competition days, while children under ten played 9 holes. Creating the feel of a professional ‘Tour’ event, the tournament counted each player’s gross score towards their Championship total and prizes were awarded to the first three competitors in each age category, for both boys and girls.

“We are delighted that this year’s event has been so popular and has run so incredibly smoothly, showcasing our fantastic facilities. It’s a real pleasure to see these promising young golfers having so much fun in a competitive environment. The Championship continues to grow year on year and we are looking forward to building on this momentum next year,” commented Chris Stilwell, Oceânico Golf’s CEO.

The popularity of the tournament was further highlighted by the numerous families who were in attendance to show their support to their siblings and experience the first-class accommodation and wide range of leisure facilities available at the luxurious Amendoeira resort.

“This has been the most special week of my golfing life and I would like to thank everyone involved from Oceânico Golf for putting on such a fantastic tournament,” commented Tomás Melo Gouveia, winner of the senior boy’s category. “Both the courses, facilities and accommodation have been spectacular and I thoroughly recommend any aspiring young golfer takes up the opportunity to play next year. I really felt as if I was playing in a tour event this week with the incredible buzz, and it is made even better by having my parents here to support,”

The tournament once again demonstrates Oceânico’s dedication to supporting golf across all levels of the game from grass roots during the Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship to the world’s elite Touring Professionals during the European Tour’s Portugal Masters. As the Kids Championship grows in stature year on year, Oceânico continues to build on a reputation for being one of Europe’s most complete family friendly venues.

The Oceânico Faldo course bear all the hallmarks of the six-time Major Champion and provides a stern, but fair test of golf, whilst the Oceânico O’Connor Jnr course demands accuracy off the tee to avoid the numerous water hazards. The magnificent clubhouse features a restaurant, lounge and bar, a spike bar and pro shop. Amendoeira also offers a wealth of sporting facilities at the Amendoeira Sports Club: two five-a-side Astroturf football pitches, six tennis courts, beach volleyball/football, a gymnasium, shop and bar.
