The inaugural Foundation Ashes Golf Day was held on 16th July at Stoke Park, Buckinghamshire near London.
Sir Ian Botham, Shane Warne, Andrew Strauss, Ricky Ponting and a host of cricketing legends captured the sporting flavour of the summer in the inaugural Foundation Ashes Golf Day at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire.
Proudly sponsored by leading clothing brand Loudmouth Golf, the England versus Australia charity match was fiercely contested and raised an impressive sum to be split between Beefy’s Foundation and the Shane Warne Foundation.
The winning team of three was led by former England one-day skipper Adam Hollioake, who pipped the trio of Channel 5 cricket presenter and former Hampshire captain Mark Nicholas and commented “I helped England take the overall victory, but, as expected, with the likes of Jeff Thomson and Merv Hughes in their ranks, the Aussies didn’t lay down quietly, and Ponting took the honours for the longest drive of the day.”
The event was rounded off with dinner and an evening’s entertainment featuring an Ashes Q&A hosted by Mark Nicholas and Sir Michael Parkinson (pictured alongside Sam Torrance).
Botham said: “It’s been a great day and one we want to make into an annual event. The golf, weather and generous support from everyone has been amazing. I’m looking forward to next year and retaining the Ashes once again.”
Warne said: “It was a great day, made even better by the sun making an appearance in the UK! Sadly the Poms won overall; we will make sure that doesn’t happen again next year!. The Shane Warne Foundation has helped countless children to live better lives and after yet another fantastic event we will be able to help a lot more.”
