The English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) have announced details of a new Club Coaching Grant for 2009, which replaces the previous Free Golf Coaching and Junior Club Coaching Grant schemes.
The Club Coaching Grant offers up to £800 to clubs to support coaching sessions for adult and junior beginners and can be used to subsidise the actual coaching or for promotional costs to market the session.
Clubs who have been awarded GolfMark will be entitled to the full £800 grant and a £400 grant will be available to other clubs – the first 350 to apply.
The new grant provides golf clubs with more flexibility in how the funding can be used in the type of sessions they choose to offer, adult and junior taster sessions being a priority. In addition the funding can now be used to provide activities that promote continued participation, possibly outside the golf clubs.
Richard Flint, EGU/EWGA golf development manager commented, “We are really excited that the new Club Coaching Grant can allow clubs to provide a much wider variety of coaching activities that benefit each individual club. With the recently launched ‘Recruitment & Retention Toolkit’ the grant should provide golf clubs with a good basis for developing ideas and activities to encourage membership”.

The Club Coaching Grant is an initiative jointly provided by the EGU and EWGA via England Golf’s ‘Whole Sport Plan’ for golf and is an integral part of England Golf’s vision to ‘Grow the Game’.
