Nick Faldo has announced that the Faldo Series will make its debut in the Netherlands when the Faldo Series Netherlands Championship tees off on 20 – 22 July 2010.
The inaugural Netherlands Championship will be hosted by de Goyer Golf and Country Club in Eemnes near Amsterdam and Faldo hopes that his unique blend of top-level competition and golf-specific education will benefit young golfers in the Netherlands in the same way that it has helped to nurture golfing talent in more than 20 countries worldwide.
Supported by The R&A and the European Tour, the Faldo Series Netherlands Championship is being organised in conjunction with the Dutch charity, Support2Sports. The 54-hole tournament will be open to boys and girls aged 12 to 21 and winners across five age-categories will automatically qualify for the Faldo Series Grand Final 2010 hosted by the six-time Major winner himself.
Faldo commented: “I’m delighted that the Faldo Series will be heading to the Netherlands next year and hope that we can help these young Dutch players to develop as competitive golfers with a well-rounded understanding for the sport. Next year will be our 14th season and it is great to see more countries coming on board year on year. I’d like to thank Support2Sport and de Goyer Golf and Country Club for making this tournament possible and I look forward to meeting the Dutch finalists next year.”
The Netherlands Championship will include a series of unique golf-specific seminars as part of the Faldo Series’ commitment to offering its participants expert support and advice. There will also be a number of grass-roots activities aimed at creating access to the sport for a younger audience.
Fred Bootsma of Support2Sport added: “We are proud that our organisation in close cooperation with de Goyer Golf & Country Club gets the opportunity to organise the Faldo Series in the Netherlands enabling us to make a contribution to Nick’s efforts to help develop tomorrow’s champions.”
