Thornbury Golf Centre, a Bristol based BGL Golf and Leisure venue, has announced the appointment of Philippa Irvine as General Manager.

Irvine joined BGL Golf, who own and operate nine other venues across the country, in 2009 as a Health & Fitness Manager of their Horizones facility in Woking. She has since completed BGL’s Management in Training (MiT) programme at two of the group’s other venues, so joins the team at Thornbury with a wealth of relevant experience.

During her MiT programme, Irvine strengthened her skill set through a variety of modules including golf operations, leadership, retail, golf course maintenance and sales and marketing.

Reflecting on the completion of the MiT programme, Philippa commented: “It gave me ‘real world’ experience under the supervision of an experienced General Manager.

“I discovered during my time at fellow BGL venue Hoebridge Golf Centre that I really enjoyed working in the golf side of the business. Getting onto the MiT position was always a goal and I couldn’t wait to be given the opportunity to develop through it.”

Thornbury continues to provide premium golfing facilities to cater for every standard of player, with two beautiful and challenging courses, a 25-bay floodlit driving range and an 11-bedroom lodge.
