Former World Number One Lee Westwood has joined the Board of Trustees of the Tour Players Foundation (TPF), the charitable foundation of The European Tour and its Members. He takes over from Paul Eales, who sat on the Board of Trustees from 2009.

The 39 year old Englishman, winner of 22 European Tour titles and leading European money winner in 2000 and again in 2009 under the current Race to Dubai format, joins Chairman Mark Roe as the players’ representatives on the seven-strong Board of Trustees.

Westwood, a strong supporter of charitable causes during his prodigiously successful career, will reinforce the message of the importance of charity through professional golf and more specifically The European Tour.

The TPF’s mission is to fund raise for and make donations and grants to voluntary bodies and charities, particularly those assisting children and young people in the regions where European Tour events are held.

Mark Road, Chairman of the TPF, commented: “’The Tour Players’ Foundation is very proud to have Lee Westwood join the Board of Trustees.  Lee needs no introduction as a player, he is a Ryder Cup hero and a former World Number One, but it is very important that we all join together and give back charitably, as the ongoing message of the TPF is ‘Changing Children’s Lives Through Golf’.

“Lee’s appointment sends a strong message to the world of golf, all our players and sponsors on how important it is to support those less fortunate than ourselves through the game we all love.”

Westwood, said: “I’m very pleased to be offered the opportunity to represent the Players on the Tour Players Foundation Trustees Board.  It’s important for the Tour as a whole to support charity in the regions that we visit and we as Players are in a strong position to make a difference to lives of others especially children and young people.

“I look forward to working with the other Trustees, who represent all facets of the European Tour family and have already done great things for numerous worthy causes across Europe.”
