Braemar Golf takes on Coaching Role for Russian Star

Braemar Golf’s Director of Golf at Golf Club Zavidovo PGA National Russia has recently taken up the role as golf coach and advisor to Russian lady golf star Maria Verchenova.

On a recent visit to the facility Maria met with David Hartshorne and was impressed with the advice he had to offer. “I was extremely impressed with David’s knowledge and straight forward approach to the game. It is great to have such a qualified and knowledgeable coach inRussia” said Maria. “David is helping me mainly with my short game and also with my off season practice schedule” she added.

David, who joined Golf Club Zavidovo PGA National Russia in March, is originally fromNew Zealand, has had a long and distinguished career in the golf industry, commencing as a tour player in the 1980’s. David’s career has seen him heavily involved with the New Zealand PGA, he has held numerous Director of Golf positions inNew Zealandand more recently he has been General Director of Cua Lo Golf Resort inVietnam.

“I am delighted to be helping Maria. This is all part of developing the game of golf in Russia and Maria’s on course success is key to the ongoing growth of the game here in Russia” commented David.

Maria, 25, started playing golf at the age of 12 and has won multiple Russian amateur championships as well as the amateur championships ofCzechRepublic,Latvia,SloveniaandAustria. She has played on the ladies European Tour since 2007 and although has not achieved a maiden victory she has had 2 top 10 finishes to date. She is also an ambassador for the Golf Club Zavidovo PGA National Russia.

Braemar Golf have also organised a winter training location for Maria at the Royal Golf Club inBahrain. Maria will base herself there for two weeks at the end of November prior to the two final events on the Ladies European Tour.

Golf Club Zavidovo PGA National Russia will open its club house and 9 holes to member play in Mid 2012 and will be fully open for play in September 2012. It isRussia’s first and only golf course to bear the prestigious PGA National brand.
