Birley Wood lands Golfmark Award

Birley Wood Golf Club, based at Birley Wood Golf Course operated by Sheffield International Venues’ (SIV), has received the GolfMark award for its work supporting young players and encouraging more people to take up the sport.

The GolfMark award was developed by The English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) to identify and acknowledge junior and beginner friendly golf facilities in England.

Birley Wood Golf Club, supported by their PGA Coach Pete Ball, received the national accreditation after demonstrating quality coaching and playing, an ethical club environment and a high standard of child protection.

Andy Carnall, SIV’s golf manager, said, “Receiving this award is a fantastic achievement. It recognises the continuous hard work undertaken by the team at Birley Wood to encourage more youngsters into the sport and develop their talent with first class coaching and facilities.

“By securing this accreditation we will be able to further enhance our junior and beginner programmes through future support from the EGU and EWGA. We hope it will also encourage more youngster and novices to pick up some clubs and get playing.”

SIV runs two other golf courses in Sheffield – Beauchief and Tinsley Park – plus Tapton Park, in Chesterfield, which deliver a total of more than 120,000 rounds per year.
