One of the country’s leading suppliers of sports sands launched a series of ground-breaking products duringEurope’s leading showcase for turf and grounds care professionals.

Hugh King & Co, which has supplied high-quality sands to various industries for 150 years, showcased the new sands during Harrrogate Week and also took part in the accompanying educational seminars.

The new products incorporate three new bunker sands each developed to address the demands of both inland and links courses. In addition, a new top-dressing blend has been introduced to complement Hugh King’s highly regarded washed dune sand and soil mix.

These latest products join Hugh King’s newly rebranded range of sands which are used by over 100 golf courses around theUK.

“We wanted to collaborate with the golf industry in order to develop a tailored range of sands that address the specific requirements of individual courses,” explained Graeme King, managing director of the family run firm. “It became evident during the consultation that selecting the right sand type for the right course was critical. To aid this process, we developed new sand formulas that would meet the specific drainage requirements of the golf industry.”

Based in Ayrshire, Hugh King & Co supplies high-quality sand for top-dressing, bunkers and soil amelioration to leading courses including St Andrews Links Trust, Carnoustie Golf Links and Castle Stuart Golf Links. The new sands have been developed in response to an extensive consultation process during which greenkeepers expressed their views about sand and its application on golf courses.

“Launching these new sands is the culmination of a lot hard work based on invaluable cooperation and input from the golf industry,” noted King. “Testing the new sands, both in our laboratory and at various courses, has been thorough and extensive. As a result, the products we have developed have been specifically designed to meet the needs of greenkeepers with high expectations.”
