10.31am 19th April 2013 - Management Topics

Zone Golf logoGolfing superstars Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Paul Lawrie and Paul McGinley are confirmed to play in the UK launch of revolutionary new game Zone Golf. Bank Holiday Monday, 27th May 2013 will see 3,500 golf fans descend upon Dukes Meadows in Chiswick where the Pros will battle it out in the new version of the game to win £250,000 for charities of their choice.

Each of the Pros will be helped to victory by celebrity team mates, with the line up including former British Tennis No.1 Tim Henman and football hero Jamie Redknapp. Popular UK TV presenter Vernon Kay will play host at the event. The event is scheduled to be shown on Sky Sports multiple times.

European and PGA Tour Player Justin Rose said: “It’s always good to come back to England and play. To have the opportunity to raise money for the Kate & Justin Rose Foundation whilst I’m there is great. Zone Golf is an exciting development for the golfing world and I can definitely see it popularizing the game!”

Scotsman Paul Lawrie, best known for his 1999 Open Championship win at Carnoustie, added: “I’m excited to be invited to play in the launch of Zone Golf! Playing against some of the best in the golfing world in a do or die game will hopefully provide the audience with some top entertainment and a fun day out for all the family. All in the name of a good cause and raising money for my Foundation is even better!”

European Tour Winner, Dukes Meadows Golf Coach and a Zone Golf Director, Van Phillips said: “It’s great that the first of many Zone Golf events will be held at my home club, Dukes Meadows, which is not only one of the best par 3 courses in the world, but also absolutely perfect for the Zone Golf format. The Zone Golf Charity Shoot Out will give us a chance to show the golfing world how our concept brings fast paced excitement to the traditionally reserved game of golf.”

The event will have £250,000 competed for by the players to give to their affiliated charities, with £100,000 going to the winning professional’s nominated charity and £50,000 going to each of the losing golfer’s charities of choice.

Zone Golf is a colourful, Par 3 game, with a twist, which is set to revolutionise golf and be the sport’s version of 20/20 cricket.

The game is played over 9 holes, which through its fast-paced strategic nature, offers an extremely exciting alternative to ‘normal’ golf. Each Par 3 green is divided into three coloured “zones” with a hole and flag in each zone (green-easy, amber-medium, red-hard). Each player/team must nominate a zone on the tee and subsequently hit that zone to acquire the relevant points (green-3, amber-6 and red-9). Additional points are available for Bogey-1, Par-2, Birdie-3, Eagle-4 (Hole in One). Spectator and player excitement is rocketed by the introduction of a “do or die” situation on every tee.

The player/team with the most points after nine holes wins.

Professional Golfers and long-term friends Van Phillips and Jeremy Kavanagh, conceived the idea for ‘The Zone Golf Charity Shoot Out’ whilst trying to come up with alternative ways to raise money for charity

Tickets go on sale on Friday 19th April and are available at www.zonegolfthegame.com www.axs.com or in person at Dukes Meadows Golf Course.
