La Manga re-opens North Course

8.34am 26th May 2020 - Coronavirus NewsCourse Development

La Manga Club, one of the largest resorts in southern Europe, has reopened one of its three 18-hole golf courses as part of the first phase of the venue’s re-opening as lockdown measures begin to be eased in Spain.

The resort, owned by Grupo Inversor Hesperia, reopened its North Course on May 16. The reopening has been carried out under the strictest protocols, following advice established by the governing health authorities and by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation to guarantee staff and player safety.

Complying with the government’s 30% capacity rule, a maximum of 120 players per day may play on the North Course, starting from the first and tenth tees. Players also need to adhere to the new rules and guidelines in order to optimise everyone’s safety and for the proper use of La Manga Club sports facilities during Covid-19.

Given the global situation generated by Covid-19, La Manga Club, like the rest of the country’s hotels and resorts, was forced to close its facilities in March. During the period of confinement, a small team has been working intensively to ensure the perfect maintenance of the facilities and to ensure that the courses continue to be in optimum condition.

After a successful re-opening, the resort’s general manager, Nick Montgomery, said: “People were looking forward to enjoying their favourite sport outdoors, in an idyllic and safe environment such as La Manga Club. I have never seen such happy golfers. We emphasize that all players and employees take on full responsibility for all of the newly implemented rules during Covid-19.”
