PING’s ‘Golden Anniversary‘ gets even brighter

7.57am 7th January 2009 - Corporate

Golf Digest’s review of the ‘hottest’ products in golf honoured eight PING® models, including the entire G10® Series (Driver, Fairway Woods, Hybrids and Irons) for the second straight year, as the magazine released its annual ‘Hot List’ in the February issue.

PING, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, was the only company to have a model repeat as a gold winner in the Driver, Fairway Wood, Hybrid and Game-improvement Iron categories. The new Rapture V2® driver, two iWi® putter models (Anser® and Craz-E®) and the i-Series® Anser putter also earned gold honors from the judges.

In receiving gold awards for the second straight year, the G10 Series proved its continued acceptance among the leading equipment evaluators and golfers alike. The products earned high marks across all the ratings, including the “Performance” and “Look/Sound/Feel” categories where the entire series scored 4.5 stars or higher (out of a possible 5). When describing the G10 iron, which received 5 stars in the “Demand” category, the judges acknowledged PING as “a master at offering fitting and set-makeup options galore.”

The multi-metal Rapture V2 Driver earned high praise from the editors for its performance (5 stars), comparing it to a Mercedes Benz by saying “the look doesn’t veer too far from traditional design, but the engineering is top notch.”

The new iWi Series scored exceptionally well with the five judges as all three models submitted (Anser, Craz-E and ½ Craz-E) were category leaders for “Innovation.” Each model earned the maximum 5 stars in their respective categories (Blade, Mallet & Mid-Mallet). The Craz-E also led the “Performance” category. The judges acknowledged the iWi Series, which features interchangeable sole weights to vary the feel of the putter, for taking putter “fitting a leap further.”

The comprehensive review of golf equipment from the industry’s leading manufacturers evaluates product on four criteria: “Performance,” “Innovation,” “Look/Sound/Feel” and “Demand.”
