Europe recognition of TGI Golf expansion

7.10am 9th August 2007 - Corporate

Eddie Reid, managing director of TGI Golf, Europe’s leading buying group for golf professionals, will deliver seminars on the European golf retail market and the advantages of buying group membership, at the golf industry’s largest trade gathering in Munich 7-9 October.

The invitation is recognition of TGI Golf’s successful expansion into European golf retail, which has seen the group recruit more than 25 premium on-course golf retailers in Holland – including 66-hole Spaarnwoude, Europe’s largest golf centre – in addition to its 380 members in the UK and Ireland.

Eddie Reid said, “I’m honoured to be asked to represent TGI Golf at Golf Europe and look forward to sharing the valuable expertise TGI has gained from its successful expansion into the European golf retail market.

“The process of setting up new TGI Golf Europe members groups is a simple one and we are seeking to identify opportunities to expand into established and emerging golf retail markets across Europe.”

TGI Golf members in Holland have already enjoyed the benefits of improved buying terms with suppliers, marketing and retail development support, access to the UK’s most successful golf trade show, the TGI Golf Show, and centrally led promotions.

A recent Srixon sales promotion enabled Dutch retailers to give away thousands of free Srixon Soft Feel golf balls as part of a promotion advertised in the Dutch national golf media.

“Due to the democratic nature of TGI Golf our members in Holland have been able to decide on their own direction and focus on their own strategies knowing that there is a home support network there to advise on marketing, retail development and promote their progress within our group,” said Reid.

TGI Golf negotiates buying terms on a central basis but always considers regional and international differences, including negotiating in different currencies (Holland and Ireland) and with varying forms of legislation.

“A major part of our success with our European members is our ability to identify and adapt to local needs, while at the same time ensuring that they benefit from the collective influence that TGI Golf enjoys with our accredited suppliers,” added Reid.
