Looking ahead to Rio 2016

The Mayor’s Office in Rio has assured the International Golf Federation that, despite disputes about land ownership, they can legally proceed with the building of the Olympic golf course. Ground-breaking is due in October/November and that is well into the timetable that is needed to run a test event in 2015.

There will be a limit of 60 men and 60 women players. They will qualify via the world rankings.

GBN.com understands that countries will only be allowed up to two players (although there is still some debate about whether countries with more than two players in the top 15 should be allowed to have up to four players). Depending on how this debate is resolved, there are likely to be around 34 countries taking part in the men’s competition and 36 in the women’s.

Only four years to go!
