This week GBN.com reports the sale of two relatively new English golf courses. One of these will revert to agricultural use while the other will continue as a golf course. There was a time when we could report a net increase in the number of golf courses every year. In many of the world’s biggest golf markets those days have passed.
The report published this week by KPMG tells us that the number of registered golfers has declined. The number of ‘nomad’ golfers (those without allegiance to any particular club) has undoubtedly increased. If golf businesses are to survive in this more competitive market they must try harder. Every day, in every way they must do better and better. If they do not, the ploughs and the tractors will move in. Food for thought……?
