Golf course architecture’s most famous names have been involved with Blairgowrie, from Dr. Alistair McKenzie and James Braid to Peter Alliss and Dave Tomas. Situated in the heart of the glorious Perthshire countryside, The Blairgowrie features the renowned Rosemount and Lansdowne championship courses plus The Wee, a very attractive 9-hole course.
Improving Blairgowrie’s presentation
The previous course signs were made on site some years ago and were looking well past their best, so it was decided some smart new signage would improve the presentation of all three courses significantly. Acting General Manager Ron McLaren explains:“We chose Eagle because as a company they are well known to us, as is the quality of their entrance sign and direction signage around the clubhouse. These signs have also lasted well, so we had confidence in the Eagle product for quality and longevity.”
Hardwood with etched zinc and sponsor panel
The club has chosen a hardwood twin post signage system, with deep etched zinc plates for the individual golf hole information. The addition into the panel of a diagram of the hole itself makes Blairgowrie’s signs significantly more distinctive and informative to the golfers as they plan and play their way around the heather lined avenues of pine and birch.
Blairgowrie’s new signage system also allows for the future addition of a sponsor panel for each tee sign, and Ron McLaren plans to approach the club’s membership initially, and then local and larger companies: “I think that when members and others see how good the new signs look and the impact it could have on their own marketing exposure, we will soon start to attract enquiries.”
The Eagle service difference
Ron McLaren particularly appreciated Eagle’s proactive attitude to customer service when looking at a choice of suppliers: “Eddie Comerford came back to us very quickly when we made our initial enquiry, and brought along a sample sign which was ideal for the committee members and greenkeeping staff to see and appreciate for themselves the quality of sign we could have.”
Ron has also found the advice from Eagle’s Eddie Comerford invaluable when it came to locating the directional signage: “Eddie was very happy to give us whatever guidance we needed to help us get things right, especially when it came to walking the courses and recommending direction sign locations.”
With the new course signage due to be installed very shortly, Blairgowrie is ensuring it is going to look its very best when the season gets into full swing.
