Enniscrone Championship Golf Club has been voted Golf Course of the Year at the recent Irish Golf Tour Operators Association Awards Ceremony, held at the Ritz Carlton, Powerscourt.
Enniscrone extended their course in 2001 with the assistance of renowned architect Donald Steel and now boast a 27 hole world class links complex. The creation of the new holes brought the huge dunes and dramatic landscape into play. The sea, of course, plays its role with the new holes played along the shores of the beautiful Killala Bay, with Nephin and the Ox Mountains making up the back drop.
Winning this prestigious award is a great endorsement and in the Captain’s speech (Kevin McLoughlin) he thanked the Head Greenkeeper, the Management, staff and present and past committees whose work and dedication has resulted in a course of this calibre.
Jerry Quinlan, from Jerry Quinlan’s Celtic Golf in the USA, presented the award and commented on how pleased he was to be making the presentation to Enniscrone – they were a wonderful and deserving recipient.
The Award from the IGTOA reflects not just the outstanding course, but also the welcome and quality of the service that visitors received while playing Enniscrone. The warmth of welcome is a priority for the management team and golf professionals at Enniscrone.
Enniscrone is a member of North & West Coast Links Golf – a marketing consortium consisting of 12 Championship Links courses along the western and northern seaboards, and previous winners of this category from this group are Carne and Ballyliffin.
Enniscrone are delighted to receive this award at the beginning of the 2008 golfing season and look forward to welcoming the thousands of visiting golfers from all over the world who will include Enniscrone in their vacation itinerary. The west and north west of Ireland offers a great golfing experience, fantastic value for money and championship links golf, and this has been recognised by the Irish Golf Tour Operators Association.
This area is becoming more popular with the visiting golfer and where better to spend 4 hours than in the dunes at Enniscrone.
