Champions of Golf, the golf management arm of award-winning, Leicestershire brand and celebrity management agency Champions (UK) plc, are very proud to confirm the signing of former Ryder Cup star and legend of the European Tour, Paul Broadhurst. Paul joins the agency’s growing roster of golfing talent, which includes two-time Major winner and four-time Ryder Cup captain, Tony Jacklin CBE, former Ryder Cup vice-captain, Peter Baker, Gary Wolstenholme MBE and European Tour rookie, Jason Palmer.

Tony commented, “Paul has an excellent record as a professional, I will always remember his round of 63 in the 1990 British Open. He is a superb addition to the Champions stable of golfing excellence.”

Paul Broadhurst has enjoyed a lengthy career at the top of the game, having played almost 600 European Tour events, and first shot to fame in his 1989 pro-debut season when he won the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award. That same year he won the Credit Lyonnaise Cannes Open on just his ninth tour appearance and did not look back.

Playing at the closely-fought 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island, nicknamed ‘The War on the Shore’, he won both his fourball match alongside Ian Woosnam OBE and beat Mark O’Meara in his singles match. In 1993 he triumphed over a high class field at the Benson & Hedges International Open and followed that up in 1995 with victory at the French Open.

Defending a title is a rare achievement in golf but Paul managed that too. Having won the Portuguese Open in 2005 he returned in 2006 to once again lift the trophy.

It is an exciting time for the Paul, who also shares the St. Andrews Open Championship course record with World No.1, Rory McIlroy. He is set to join the European Senior Tour this August after turning 50 and has been playing extremely well in recent overseas pro-celebrity competitions in preparation.

Champions of Golf will work not only to manage his Senior Tour debut but also to identify ambassadorial opportunities for Paul along with engaging him in corporate golf events and further establishing his burgeoning reputation on the after dinner speaking circuit.

Upon signing the agreement with Champions of Golf, Paul said “I’m very pleased to be joining Champions. I’ve heard lots of positive things about the agency from people in the golfing world, not least from my good friend Peter Baker who has benefitted greatly from his association with them. Their team look after a wide range of stars from sports and entertainment and, as a local lad, I hope to build a long-term relationship with Champions.”

Matthew Hayes, Managing Director of Champions (UK) plc, spoke of his delight at signing Paul. He said “We are really excited to welcome a golfer of Paul Broadhurst’s calibre and reputation on board. He’s been a terrific player for a number of decades and has an exemplary standing in the game. We wish him the very best as he joins the Senior Tour later this year and will bring all of our knowledge and experience to bear in advancing his career.”
